Ever Wonder What Happens To A Facebook Profile When Somebody Dies?

A strange way people interact with loved ones after they have passed away is through Facebook. As queer as this may be, millions of left-behind families and friends around the world browse through their demised loved ones’ profiles and reminisce by looking at old photos and share memories or words of  grief on their walls. As of 2012, 30 million people who maintained Facebook accounts have died, according to a report by The Huffington Post. Some studies approximate that nearly 3 million users have died in 2012 alone; 580,000 in the U.S. This “Facebook after death” phenomena makes people wonder: What does happen to a Facebook profile a user has passed away? Burials Unearthed Delays Restoration of a Chapel

Workmen had to put their work on hold when they uncovered four burial vaults while repairing floorbeds to restore Stoke-on-Trent’s historic Bethesda Chapel. Inside the vaults lie the remains of William Smith, Job Ridgway, George Ridgway and Job Meigh, some of the local founding members of the Methodist New Connection. They were found buried along with their wives. There are no plans to open up or disturb the vaults. The stone slabs that protect the vault are too high, preventing the construction workers from making the necessary adjustments to make the intended stage. Funeral Horror Stories: No Dignity for the Dead

You can only imagine the horror David Wells of Rohnert Park felt when he got a call from an investigator saying that the body of his father, that was meant to be cremated, was found in a storage unit, badly decayed along with eight other bodies. Wells said the family had paid mortician Anthony Villeggiante $1,500 for the cremation of his father, but weeks passed and his ashes never came. To make matters worse, the mortician had apparently sprinkled carpet deodorizer over the bodies to mask the smell of decay. It’s unknown exactly how many of these incidents occur, but after NBC Bay Area’s Investigative Unit reviewed disciplinary actions for just the past two years, a number of horror stories were uncovered. Some of them—funeral directors behaving badly, others, outright crimes. To read more of Funeral Industry Horror Stories, visit here.
