Healing Adventures Camp Helps Children Deal with Loss

Hosted by Mayo Clinic Hospice, the Healing Adventures Camp brings together young children who have experienced death of a loved one. The goal of the camp is to gather the children and help them connect with other kids who have also experience loss and grief. According to Amy Stelpflug, a volunteer coordinator, various games and physical activities will be facilitated during the camp. Music Helped a Teen Overcome His Grief

While other people struggle in coming to terms with negative feelings of loss, 16-year old Odhran Bartley somehow managed to make things a bit easier. In 2007, 7-year old Odhran lost his father. Grief and Bereavement Programs of Saint Anne’s Hospital

Losing someone you love such as a family member or a dear friend is indeed one of the greatest loss a person has to face in his lifetime. So in order to help those who have lost a loved one, Saint Anne’s Hospital’s Office of Spiritual Care offers grief education and bereavement series. The series would include separate programs – one in English and the other in Portuguese. They will be facilitated by Sister Judith A. Acosta, a member of Saint Anne’s Spiritual Care team. Camp Erin Helps Children Deal with Death

Camp Erin, a free weekend for children and teenagers who have experienced death of a loved one, seeks to offer a combination of fun activities and grief support. It is composed of two sessions each summer with about 75 kids at a time. During the camp, children partake in a scavenger hunt, search for pre-planted rocks and convene as a group to share their thoughts and experiences. According to Michele Prince, the Camp Erin sessions are very rewarding especially with the fact that these children who came from different socioeconomic backgrounds all take part in various grief-related projects. Camp Healing Hearts for the Grieving Children

Last July 23, Camp Healing Hearts with the theme “Love Never Ends” was held at Camp Dickerson. The event was designed especially for school-aged children and teens who are in the process of coping with grief. According to nurse Sara Hart of Twin County Hospice, the camp was organized due to lack of support groups for young children who lost their loved ones. Teaching Children Positive Ways to Deal with Grief

Dealing with the death of a loved one can be very difficult for anyone especially for children. In hopes of helping children learn positive ways to express their grief and deal with all the negative emotions, Good Grief Fun Camp conducted a three-day event for 40 campers. Sponsored by Putnam County Homecare and Hospice, the campers who were five through 18 year old were given the opportunity to learn about and better understand the grieving process.
