Community Mourn for Beloved Neighbor's Death

An entire community mourn for the loss of a beloved neighbor. Tameda Ferguson, 30, was found dead in her home at Doverel Hwy in Terrell County. Her family and neighbors are all heartbroken about the news. “We always say no that we don’t want this in the community and the way we do our best to make sure it doesn’t happen again or to prevent it from happening is just continue keeping the community safe as we can,” says Kim Baker, Special agent in charge of case, Terrell County Sheriff’s office. Mother Fights for Better Bereavement Laws

Lucy Herd, a mother who has recently lost her 23-month-old son, has founded Jack’s Rainbow Charity which, among other things, aims to change the bereavement laws in her state. A short time after their child passed away, Lucy and her partner separated. She says that because of the limited time that she was granted to mourn for the loss of their child, the couple was not able to be there for each other in times of need. Death of a Loved One Can Increase Mortality Risk for Bereaved

A study that aims to determine how the death of a loved one can affect the bereaved’s own mortality was conducted and based on the result, depending on the cause of death, grief for the death of a loved one can actually increase the risk of mortality. Sunil M. Shah, MBBS, of the Division of Population Health Sciences and Education at St. George’s University of London, conducted a study on 170,000 couples over the age of 60. Death of a Loved One Can Increase the Risk for Heart Attack

Grief can be heartbreaking. A new study shows that during the first 24 hours after the death of a loved one, a person’s risk of suffering from a heart attack increases by about 21 times. The study also found out that the risk of a heart attack remained 8 times above normal during the first week after the death. Though the risk of a heart attack may decline over time, it will remain elevated for at least a month. According to Elizabeth Mostofsky, a study researcher and a post-doctoral fellow in the cardiovascular epidemiological unit at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston bereavement and grief are associated with increased feelings, of anxiety, anger, and depression and they have been shown to cause an increase in heart rate and blood pressure.
