Death of a Loved One Can Increase Mortality Risk for Bereaved

A study that aims to determine how the death of a loved one can affect the bereaved’s own mortality was conducted and based on the result, depending on the cause of death, grief for the death of a loved one can actually increase the risk of mortality. Sunil M. Shah, MBBS, of the Division of Population Health Sciences and Education at St. George’s University of London, conducted a study on 170,000 couples over the age of 60. Man Who Has Lost a Son Comforts Others with Same Experience

They say that the best way to get over the loss of a loved is by openly talking about your feelings regarding the event. However, some people who have not gone through the same experience may not be able to understand or give you the consolation that you need. Death of a Loved One Can Increase the Risk for Heart Attack

Grief can be heartbreaking. A new study shows that during the first 24 hours after the death of a loved one, a person’s risk of suffering from a heart attack increases by about 21 times. The study also found out that the risk of a heart attack remained 8 times above normal during the first week after the death. Though the risk of a heart attack may decline over time, it will remain elevated for at least a month. According to Elizabeth Mostofsky, a study researcher and a post-doctoral fellow in the cardiovascular epidemiological unit at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston bereavement and grief are associated with increased feelings, of anxiety, anger, and depression and they have been shown to cause an increase in heart rate and blood pressure. The Importance of Rituals in Life, Death, and Business

People turn to rituals in the face of loss no matter if it’s the death of a loved one, a bad breakup, or loss of job. Michael I. Norton, a behavioral scientist became interested in mourning rituals after reading “This Republic of Suffering” from Harvard University President Drew Gilpin Faust. The book describes the different ways that parents, children, spouses, and friends dealt with the enormous loss of soldiers during the American Civil War. Some Animals Grieve Loss of Owners

Whenever a family pet dies, people grieve. When a pet owner dies, the pets may also grieve over the loss, and whenever a pet dies, a surviving pet may also have difficulty coping up. Man Faked Mother's Obit

According to police in Northwestern Pennsylvania, a man published an obituary for his living mother in a ploy to get paid bereavement time off from work. The relatives called up The Jeffersonian Democrat newspaper after the orbit was published to report that the mother was indeed actually alive and well. In fact, the mother visited the paper. Scott Bennett, 45 years old, was charged by police with disorderly conduct. Bollywood Saddened by the Death of Jiah Khan

Bollywood celebrities were shocked by the death of actress Jiah Khan who was only 25 years old. Jiah was found hanging in her residence at around 11 p.m. Her real name is Nafisa Khan. She made her debut with Ram Gopal Varma’s “Nishabd” with Amitabh Bachchan in 2007. Varma called Jiah a girl with “spunk and spirit”. “No matter what her problem was I just so wish she applied her on-screen philosophy of ‘Nishabd’ to her own life.
