consoling an old womanMorticians and those working in the funeral business are usually the first ones that people turn to when someone passes away. They embalm, wash, dress and prepare the body for the funeral. They also get to see the initial reactions of people when it comes to death.
Lisa Brand, who works as funeral director for a family owned funeral services, only gets two kinds of reactions from people when they learn of her trade: either they want to know more or they want to avoid the topic altogether.
According to Madeleine Smither for The Monitor, “She is usually one of the first people called when someone passes away, so she is at a sort of ground zero for grief, which can be emotionally taxing.”
