Sullivan, Herminia (Emma)

Due to COVID, a private church service will be celebrated for immediate family only. A public service in her honor will be planned for a future date when we can fully celebrate Emma’s life together. Herminia (Emma) Sullivan, passed away on January 20, 2022, surrounded by her devoted family at the age of 98. Emma was born in Spain and arrived in Brooklyn at the age of six.  She met the love of her life, Buddy (F.X.) Sullivan and married following WWII. Together, along with Emma’s cousins Maruja and PepitaFernandez, they ran the Long Island Bar & Restaurant since the 1950’s and raised their family.  Enjoying summer trips to her homeland in Galicia, Spain she kept alive familial traditions with each generation. On Wednesday, December 15, 2021, Jose Javier Matias, loving son and beloved brother passed away at his home at the age of 51. Jose was born on December 2, 1970 in Brooklyn, NY to Jose and Margarita Matias. Jose served as a Public Safety Officer for over 20 years for the Downtown Alliance. He enjoyed his work making the city a more welcoming place, but more importantly enjoyed the company of the co-workers he befriended during his tenure.
