Salvatore Formicola, 87, passed away on June 17, 2026. Born on July 25, 1938, in Naples, Italy, Salvatore was the beloved son of Giuseppe Formicola and Filomena Iavazzo Formicola. He was the youngest of five children and was predeceased by his siblings, Lena Pepitone, Maria Cataneo, Concetta “Tina” Cataneo, and Antonio Formicola. In 1962, Salvatore immigrated to the United States after being offered an opportunity to work for the legendary Marilyn Monroe. Tragically, Marilyn Monroe passed away shortly after his arrival, and the opportunity never materialized. He subsequently entered the construction trade and built a successful career working on many of the interior floor plans of Manhattan’s skyscrapers, contributing to some of New York City’s most recognizable buildings. A longtime resident of Astoria, Queens, Salvatore was well known among the local merchants and members of the community who came to know him over the years. Salvatore maintained dual citizenship in both Italy and the United States throughout his life and remained proud of his Italian heritage. A proud Mason, Salvatore spent many years in the construction industry before later working for the law office of Max Leifer, Esq. Salvatore is survived by his niece and nephews, as well as many close family friends who will remember him and the life he built after coming to America. His journey from Naples, Italy, to the United States reflected a lifetime of hard work and determination. He leaves behind a lasting legacy through the buildings he helped create and the many lives he touched along the way. May he rest in peace.
