Rosa Faulisi, age 85, of Brooklyn, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 22, at home surrounded by her loved ones.
Rosa was born on January 6, 1941, in Grumo Appula, Bari (Italy) to the late Giuseppe and Giovanna (Maggio) Caccioppoli. Rosa Caccioppoli Faulisi was the beloved wife of Nino. They married in 1963 and immigrated together, with their two youngdaughters, to the USA in 1969, where they later had their son Anthony, and to find the American dream and spent their life in Brooklyn, NY. They shared 60 beautiful years of marriage.
Rosa loved spending time in the kitchen, always cooking up wonderful meals for friends and family. She and her husband entertained many times, there was always a plate at the table for anyone who dropped in. The espresso pot was always ready. Besides being a wonderful cook, Rosa was a very talented seamstress and knitter, and one of her favorite pastimes was making beautiful doilies and blankets for around the house and for anyone who needed one.
The most special memories we all share are all the holidays spent together in their basement around the kitchen table, weekends at the upstate house, drives through the countryside, and making panzerotti, Sicilian cuccidate, taralli Baresi, and tomato sauce canning every year together.
Rosa is survived by her three children, Maria Laudani and her husband, Frank, of Valley Stream, Joann Cristiano and her husband, Joseph, of Staten Island, and Anthony Faulisi and his wife, Grace, of Staten Island. Her six grandchildren are Cristina, Adrian, Julia, Joseph, Elena and Anthony, whom held a very special spot in nonna’s heart. Rosa is predeceased by her brother, Franco.
Rosa was my mother in law, what a beautiful caring and giving soul she was. She was always so kind to me, treated me like her own son. She was a happy person, loved to joke around with her banter and one liners of “many flavors”. (Those who know, know) A cook like no other, Simply Amazing! Rosa was happiest when her house was full of family and guests, there was always room for one more at her table. She loved her Family unconditionally, her grandchildren were her pride and joy. I will miss her dearly.
Ma, You are now reunited with your love Nino, may you both Rest in Peace in Paradise forever! I love you, Joe.
Rosa was one my mom’s best friends. To me she was always “La Zia Rosa.” She was loving, caring, and had a great sense of humor. I loved listening to her speak Barese. I will cherish many happy memories from my childhood with her. She will be missed. May she rest in peace. ❤️
I met Rosa when I was 11. She was happy, and full of energy. I was a bit shocked by her Barese anecdotes and found them amusing and liberating. She is the ‘Fearless Girl’ of her time. I will truly miss her. Love you Rosa. Rest in peace.
