Giacomo “Jack” DiCostanzo passed away on January 30, 2026. Challenge after challenge, he kept fighting pancreatic cancer the past couple of years.

He’d pass the finish line, then a setback here, then pass the finish line again, and another setback here and there. He did what he could to beat it, no matter the intensity, and did it with a smile, and no complaints.

Throughout his illness Jack showed remarkable resilience, enduring surgery, chemotherapy & radiation while remaining positive and never giving up.

He was born October 20, 1945, to Maria Assunta and “Rocco” DiCostanzo. A U.S. Army veteran, Jack was the first person in his family to graduate from college and went on to become an architect. He worked for HUD and had a great set of comrades for 30+ years. As a side hustle, he worked on various projects, including church design. Jack was also a devoted parishioner of St. Mary Mother of Jesus Church for 40+ years.

Jack is survived by his wife, Nancy; his daughter, Maria; his son, John; his sister, Madeline; his sister‑in‑law Anna; nieces Carolyn, Lisa, and their families; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families (Conroy, DiMeglio, Ferrara, Randazzo) and many neighbors who became family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dominick; his brother‑in‑law Bobby, nephew‑in‑law Chris, and many others from the four families mentioned earlier.

Jack supported his children’s dreams and encouraged them to “just go for it.” He often said that his wife Nancy was both the best “nurse” and “life support” that gave the medical biz a run for its money. A lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and a proud Brooklynite, he also loved the music of Neil Diamond, and wanted to make it to FL one more time.

Jack was baptized, confirmed and served as an altar boy with his brother at Sacred Hearts & Stephen Catholic Church, during Monsignor DelVecchio’s tenure, when the mass was served in Latin.

Our beloved Uncle Jack was a gentle man and a gentle soul. He was an accomplished architect, skilled in his field, and dedicated to his work. He was very proud of his Italian heritage and a person deeply committed to his Roman Catholic Faith. But more than anything he loved his wife Nancy and children John Sebastian and Maria Lucia. Family was first and foremost everything to him. He endured his cancer illness with great resolve, courage, and dignity, never allowing it to change him. His suffering is finally over. We pray that he rest in peace. He will be deeply missed.

As the Regional Administrator of HUD, I had the privilege of working with Jack. We were the only 2 licensed Architects in HUD.
He was an outstanding individual, talented, dedicated, and loved by his fellow workers. Always a smile and easy to work with. A CLASS ACT. I had the pleasure of connecting with Jack after I retired from HUD in 1988. We were email buddies and an occasional phone chat. May he rest in peace and help those colleagues in heaven to keep on building. God bless Nancy and his loving family.

Jack was a wonderful person. He never hesitated to help a fellow coworker in need. I knew Jack for twenty years at HUD and he assisted me in some of my cases with his expertise in accessibility guidelines. Giacomo was one of the good guys. His family was the center of his universe. Nancy, John, and Maria, I’m so sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace now free of the burden of pain.
