Few Spanish Speakers in the Funeral Industry

November 3, 2013

The funeral industry in the United States is facing a shortage of sorts. It has been revealed that there are very few Spanish speakers working in the funeral industry. This shortage fails to address the fact that there is a rise in the Hispanic population of the country.
According to Corrie MACLAGGAN for The New York Times, “Just 5 percent of the 1,589 United States mortuary school graduates in 2012 were Hispanic, according to the American Board of Funeral Service Education. By contrast, 17 percent of Americans are Hispanic.”
