Does Depression Coincide with Grief?

January 28, 2015

Depression please cut to the chase.
Grief and bereavement are two highly associated concepts. The former refers to all the feelings, emotions and phases that a person experiences after a loss, or bereavement.

On the other hand, while grief and depression are also often seen in similar contexts, they are not actually the same. With proper grief management, a person is more likely to grieve without going through depression.
People who have had a history of depression, are going through intense grief, have few social support, and have had little experience of death are more prone to go through depression after bereavement.
