  1. Chris sent me a Christmas card every year for the last 23 years. I know she laughed at my antics and I loved that she loved me. She was amazing. Nicole sending you love. Love your face.

  2. To Chris’s family and friends:

Chris had been a member of an online facebook group named Aging Alone. Here is the message we sent out to the group regarding Chris’s passing:

Last week we learned that a member of our group and regular member of our Wednesday Zoom sessions died unexpectedly.

Chris O’Neil joined Aging Alone just a few months after we started in Jan 2018. She also began participating in our zoom sessions shortly after they began and became a regular participant from her apartment in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Her family posted an announcement on Chris’s Facebook page Monday, June 19th.

In those early days of the pandemic Chris shared with us how horrible the situation was in New York City then. We gave her insights into other areas of the USA, Canada, and Uruguay.
Over the years, we came to share details of our lives. Chris shared her perspective on life and aging alone. We were sympathetic when she struggled through intense dental procedures.

She sat in a chair beside a window. On summer evenings we often had to ask her to turn on a light as her face would recede into the darkness after sunset. She sipped on a glass of red wine throughout our ninety minutes together each week. Raise a glass as you can in remembrance of Chris. Her presence will be missed.

I think I can speak on behalf of the regular members of the zoom sessions in saying that her passing has touched us each deeply. It is a testament to the fact that people who have never met “in person” can foster real connections and a sense of community, and this is done through the simple weekly gathering online and sharing aspects of our lives with those present.

Below is a pic from today’s zoom group raising a glass in her honor. Rather than wishing that she “Rest in Peace”, we wished that her spirit is off having an amazing and wonderful adventure in whatever lies beyond this earthly existence.
