  1. Due to COVID, a private church service will be celebrated for immediate family only.
A public service in her honor will be planned for a future date when we can fully celebrate Emma’s life together.

Herminia (Emma) Sullivan, passed away on January 20, 2022, surrounded by her devoted family at the age of 98. Emma was born in Spain and arrived in Brooklyn at the age of six.  She met the love of her life, Buddy (F.X.) Sullivan and married following WWII. Together, along with Emma’s cousins Maruja and PepitaFernandez, they ran the Long Island Bar & Restaurant since the 1950’s and raised their family.  Enjoying summer trips to her homeland in Galicia, Spain she kept alive familial traditions with each generation. Emma is remembered as a dear Abuela, mother, and friend to so many.  She touched many lives in different ways through her ever-generous spirit.  Most of all, she cherished her family and her many friendships, wishing nothing but the best for all – until the very end. This past Christmas, she began writing her cards in November to be sure she got them all done and a final message sent.

She is predeceased by her husband Buddy, her son Raymond Sullivan and daughter Linda Alperin.

Donations may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital in her memory as children filled her life.

Emma’s final words of advice: Be good to one another.”

  5. I had the pleasure of first meeting Emma during Marissa’s wedding and, like so many, was duly impressed by her devotion to her family and the welcoming bar she so lovingly ran for so many years. We should all be so fortunate to have made the impact she has, both in her family and community. My sympathies to Marissa, John, Diego, Sebi, and Carmen as well as the rest of the Alperin family.
