Coping with Grief Through Art

Just like adults, young children also grieve when they lose a loved one.
Jacqueline Bequette, an art teacher at Omaha’s Benson West, noticed that many of her students had suffered the loss of a loved one and eventually found a way on how she can help them deal with grief. In order to allow the students to remember the loved one who passed away, she created a lesson plan across every grade level. The project makes use of the “tree of life” which would help explain to the students that death is part of living and that there are different ways to deal with the negative emotions.
