Grieving on Social Media Isn’t Always Helpful

According to Professor Charles Ess during his talk at Trinity College Dublin, social media platforms such as Facebook have become important new platforms for developing support networks for those individuals who are dealing with loss of a loved one. He also emphasized that social media together with digital and mobile technologies have helped in sustaining the memory of children when it comes to the subject of the loss of a child.
Contrary to Professor Ess’ expectation, younger people have reacted adversely to online outpouring of grief. As a matter of fact, many have quit social media and have gone back to real life.
