The death of a loved one can be an extremely painful experience for anyone. If you have a friend who is mourning the death of a partner, close friend or relative, you may feel somehow uncertain as to how you can offer him or her your consolation.
- Avoid imposing deadlines on his grieving period. Some people may grieve for longer periods than others.
- While both of you may be going through the stages of grief, understand that one may be undergoing a totally different experience that the other.
- Encourage and help the person to memorialize. For instance, offer your assistance in the funeral preparations, and suggest other genuine ways of remembering his departed loved one.
