Turning to Friends When Coping with the Death of a Spouse

According to research, obligatory relationships such as that with your family can be less beneficial than discretionary relationships like friendship.
A study in 2004 revealed that those people who found emotional support from their family fared significantly worse in terms of health than those who sought support from their friends. As friendships are less ambivalent and emotionally complex, confiding to a friend can help protect one’s health in the fact of stress such as becoming widowed.
