Virginia Beach – Anthony Gargiulo, affectionately known as “Tony” by his friends, 77, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away after fighting a courageous battle on April 8, 2014.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on August 8, 1936, Anthony was the son of the late Anthony and Renee Gargiulo. Anthony moved to Virginia Beach, VA from NYC in 1980s.
Anthony was a vibrant and charming individual who loved life and interacting with people. He was passionate about sharing exquisite Italian cuisine and he successfully fulfilled this desire as an owner of the Il Giardino Ristorante located in Virginia Beach. Local patrons and tourists considered Il Giardino Ristorante to be one of the finest restaurants in town. This was a credit to Anthony’s business acumen, charming personality, flair for style and imagination.
Anthony’s legacy isn’t limited to providing some of the finest Italian cuisine in the Virginia Beach area but it also includes a lifetime of generosity. On numerous occasions over the years he would assist countless individuals thru acts of kindness while never requiring acknowledgement for these deeds. Anthony was just grateful that he was in a position where he could provide help to these individuals during their troubling times.
He left this earth knowing how much he was loved by his family and many of his friends. Left to cherish his precious memories are his brother Andrew, his sister Marie, his children Rachele, Lisa and Anthony Jr., his grandchildren Frank, Christopher and Danielle; in addition to a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Anthony’s life will be conducted for friends and family from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m., Monday, April 14, at the Scotto Funeral Home, Brooklyn. The funeral mass will take place at the Sacred Hearts Saint Stephens Church located at the corner of Summit & Hicks Streets, Brooklyn, New York on April 15, 2014 at 10:15 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery located at 500 25th Street, Brooklyn, New York.
